Feds urge 4.6M Ford recalls
Ford has had seven separate recalls since 1999 of a total of 9.6 million vehicles, including 220,000 vehicles re-recalled earlier this month. Combined, the campaigns represent one of the largest recalls in U.S. history. The $21 Texas Instruments switches were installed in 16 million Ford vehicles over a decade. The automaker stopped using them in 2002. The switches have been linked to nearly 550 vehicle fires and 1,500 complaints. Ford faces more than 125 lawsuits around the country over fires, injuries and several deaths linked to the faulty switches. The switch is used to deactivate a vehicle's cruise control when a driver taps the brake pedal. Most of the lawsuits allege fires began well after the vehicles were turned off. In many cases, insurance companies initially paid for damage to homes in fires that the owners claim were sparked by Ford vehicles, and then the insurers sued Ford to try to recoup their losses.

I’m told Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have discussed the possibility ...
You might question whether Gordon Brown would really welcome Tony Blair as a prince across the water, but the impression I get is that, if Mr Blair wants it, they would have to support him,. No hurry Mr Blair feels that while it's flattering to be considered, there is no hurry: indeed it's too early in the process to make a decision. He wants to wait and see how the job is fleshed out as meat is put on the bones of the Lisbon Treaty. The trouble is that nothing of importance will be decided until after the Irish referendum, on a date yet to be announced, for fear of frightening the voters with potentially controversial decisions. How much urgency is there? Nicolas Sarkozy would like all this settled at the beginning of the French presidency, in July.
Rhonda and John Stallone work with community for success
John and Rhonda Stallone have created a wonderful marriage of business and community service in Mountain & River Adventures (MRA) in Kernville. The outdoor adventure company was started by John in 1989, when he decided after spending three summers working as a raft guide that bringing the experience of outdoor recreation to others was what he really wanted to do with his life. “I got locked into the rafting; it gets in your blood when you start doing it," said John. John first came to the Kern River Valley in 1986, when he was a senior at San Diego State University majoring in Industrial Arts and Furniture Design, because a friend encouraged him to participate in a rafting guide school here. He immediately fell in love with the Kern River and its surrounding mountains, and spent the next three summers working as a raft guide and exploring area on foot and mountain bike.

Gambrazzio, a realtor living in the off-Cape town of Abington 20 miles south of Boston, is being called this week as a witness for the defense in an apparent attempt to refute Frazier's claim that he spent the night of the murder at the Mulvey house in Eastham. Burke also testified yesterday that McCowen on the day of his arrest initially denied having any physical contact with Worthington, as he had in two prior interviews with police. But when confronted with a DNA report linking him to Worthington, Burke testified, McCowen said "it could have been him." A state police DNA expert testified Friday that the odds of the saliva found on Worthington's right breast not coming from McCowen at 1 in 199.8 billion. The DNA expert, Christine Lemire, took the stand again this morning, with George's numerous questions about the chain of custody for DNA swabs an apparent attempt to create doubt about its validity among jurors.Burke described McCowen as lucid, sober and cooperative during the 5- to 6-hour long interrogation, which McCowen declined to be recorded.
