Doubts cast over Falconio murder case evidence

A prominent criminal lawyer in Perth has been asked to examine whether DNA evidence could provide grounds for reopening the Northern Territory's Falconio murder case.

A court ruling in Northern Ireland has cast doubt on the DNA technique used to test a key piece of evidence that helped convict Bradley John Murdoch.

Murdoch was found guilty of murdering British backpacker Peter Falconio on the Territory's Stuart Highway in 2001.

Murdoch was convicted in 2005 and Falconio's body has never been found.

Britain's Forensic Science Regulator has ordered a review of Low Copy Number (LCN) DNA testing and the ABC understands Perth QC Tom Percy is looking into the controversy.

Council for Civil Liberties spokesperson Terry O'Gorman has told ABC TV's Stateline that Australian authorities should also look into the technique.

DeAnna Pappas: Prime Bachelorette Material

ABC recently announced that in addition to the new season of The Bachelor that will air this spring, The Bachelorette will return this summer.

Why there has been a three-year gap since a woman was last in the driver's seat is not known, though the waffling of Brad Womack may be a big reason the network eventually decided to bring back the popular spin-off.

DeAnna Pappas from the last season of The Bachelor was first on many lists of prime candidate for The Bachelorette. While nothing has been announced, she's certainly stoking the rumors with some recent comments.

If she were to become The Bachelorette, DeAnna said:

“I would approach the experience with a very open mind. I would also do my best to try to be very understanding considering I would know exactly what the guys are going through! I will approach it with the hope of finding one amazing man that hopefully I can live happily ever after with in the end."

DeAnna Pappas, seen here with that ass clown Brad, also mused on what kind of romantic dates she would like to plan if she were chosen as The Bachelorette.

Minister accused of wanting 'return to the workhouse'

Caroline Flint said that there was clear evidence that many of the long-term unemployed in social housing could find work with the right support.

She suggested that new council tenants who can work should have to sign "commitment contracts", agreeing to actively seek employment and to retrain to top up their skills.

Over the rainbows

Best to stick to the facts. Fact – there was a lot of sneering about the Klaxons being proponents of a hastily-contrived fad known as nu-rave. Fact – there was also some sneering about their poshness. But they overcame all of this to win the Mercury Music Prize with their debut album, Myths Of The Near Future. There doesn't seem much doubt, though, that the Klaxons are keenly interested in the future. Their second album of 2007, a compilation in the Bugged Out series, included that great, old Zager & Evans prophesy of doom, 'In The Year 2525'. We don't really know for sure whether the Klaxons will last much beyond twenty-past-five next Thursday, but if you're truly futuristic you have to acknowledge the past and be respectful of it. Bugged Out, mixing Krautrock with Frankie Valli, suggested deeper-thinking popsters with a great record collection.LCD Soundsystem made another of 2007's finest albums, Sound Of Silver, and Mark Ronson was among those who enthused about it seeming to have "come down from a spaceship".

Hip-Hop Rumors: Ex-Gunit Member Disses Young Buck! Bow Wow Gets In ...

OK, there are too many idiots online to focus on one, but I am just going to say. If you are an idiot, stop being an idiot and get a job or just find a coffin to crawl inside of. I don't mean anybody on this site or even some “rap site." I mean, the idiots with nothing better to do in life.

RANDOM QUOTES

A Black minister that regards Obama as a “House Negro":

"Don't trust any Negro to be your leader that hasn't been in jail…if the White man ain't put him in jail he ain't qualified to be your leader." (What a clown thing to say! Does that apply to Whites, Latinos and Asians? What if it's a Black person putting you in jail? This is why I'm not in church now.)

MF DOOM AGAIN…IMPOSTERS?

I told you this underground rumor months and years ago! Thank MF Doom, the great rapper, slaps a “doom metal face" mask on one of the homies and sends them out to do concerts for him.

The Gangsters of Drew Street, Glassell Park

And the son that some law enforcement officials described as the worst of Leon's boys, Danny "Klever" Leon, lay dead in the street.

The mayhem erupted at about 11:30 a.m. on February 21, when three Avenues gangsters allegedly pulled up in two cars and opened fire on 36-year-old Marcos Salas and his 2-year-old granddaughter near Aragon Avenue Elementary School in Cypress Park. Riddled with 15 bullets, Salas, who had former gang ties, was killed instantly, but the tiny toddler survived.

The gangsters then exchanged gunfire with occupants of a black van — police speculate that the vehicle was probably full of Cypress Park gangsters — before heading back to Drew Street, where a series of gang-controlled homes and apartments are situated, almost mockingly, a couple of hundred yards across the train tracks from the LAPD's Northeast Station.

Highlight: Strategic Redeployment

Hamilton), and congressional leaders to consider our reasoned, pragmatic plan to strategically redeploy our military forces in Iraq and around the region to fight our terrorist enemies in the most effective and most lethal fashion possible.

One year ago the Center for American Progress issued its first report calling for a responsible exit from Iraq as part of a balanced global strategy to make Americans safer. We reiterated that call six months later as subsequent events only underscored the need to act on our proposals. Today, the situation in Iraq is even more dire.

Violence in Iraq is spiraling out of control as it turns inward, with sectarian killings surpassing deaths from terrorist bombings and militias splintering the country. Squabbling among Iraqi leaders makes matters worse.

Could city secede?

As he sees it, the inability to compete with two Ontario provincial casinos just across the border has cost the community thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenues.

"Port Huron is at a crossroads, literally and figurative, for its future survival," he said.

The casino issue is back before Congress, where the 48-member House Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a vote Wednesday on a bill that would clear the way for a gaming facility at Desmond Landing or the Thomas Edison Inn.

City fades, falters The notion of secession raises any number of questions, including an obvious one: Is Carter serious?

He insists he is. "You've got to be able to call their bluff," he said. "If you think it's worth pursuing, you'd better be ready to take the final step."

Carter, a native of Croswell, moved to Port Huron with his family when he was 11.
